Top 5 Movie Franchises of All Time
A look into five of the greatest movie franchises.
This list will contain the 5 most successful movie franchises of all time from the 5th ranking franchise to the 1st. These franchises have climbed to the top through their accumulating profit and popularity.
Coming in at number five is the Tolkien Saga. This franchise includes the Lord of The Ring movies plus The Hobbit. The movies are based on the successful book series which venture into middle earth – a mythical world of wizards, dwarfs, trolls, hobbits, and the like. Ever since the first movie in 2001, the franchise has made more than $5.8 billion. Their most recent movie premiered in 2014, and it will likely be their last.
At number 4 is the oldest franchise on the list – the James Bond series. The series began in 1962 and has featured a total of 8 different James Bond actors. The most recent movie came out in 2015, and it looks like there are still more to come. The franchise is about a British spy who drinks martini’s, beats up bad guys, and still looks good while doing it. Earnings for the James Bond series are more than $7 billion dollars.
Number three on this list is the sci-fi super giant Star Wars. Star Wars started with the 3 original movies in the late 70’s and early 80’s then branched into prequels in the 2000’s. Star Wars focuses on a rebellion which must battle against the powerful dark side in order to bring peace to the galaxy. Two recent movies have come out and there are more to come. Star Wars has been successful, earning over $7.6 billion.
Coming in at number 2 is the world of wizards and witches – Harry Potter. Harry Potter movies have been around since 2001 and the last movie was in 2011. The movies are about a boy who goes to a wizard school to learn magic and ends up meeting deadly creatures and challenges along the way. The franchise has made a whopping $8.5 million dollars, but unlike the Star Wars and James Bond franchises, they are done making movies.
The number 1 franchise of all time is the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it is no surprise. They continue to roll more out each year. Marvel movies feature a variety of different super heroes and villains – many of them being super genetic people and aliens. With enough movies to make a full TV series of episodes, Marvel has racked up over $10.9 billion. With more movies coming out, they will not be moving down from the number 1 spot for a while.
