Night of the Arts

Night of the Arts is a great opportunity to experience all the amazing fine arts Westminster has to offer while portraying the importance of Black History month. Westminster students use their abilities and talents convey the culture and traditions of Black History. Kathy Eichelberger, faculty staff gives us insight on what Night of the Arts experience is like.

This year with be the fourth year of Night of the Arts. The program originally began strictly a Black History Month program to recognize the achievements of African Americans. Their achievements can often be told through drama, poems, or songs. The program as evolved into more of a Night of the Arts program where we celebrate current and past African Americans who have influenced our culture today. Also this is a night to recognize artists who have contributed beautiful music, dance, drama and art to our culture.

“While I think we could maybe celebrate Black History Month in a many different ways, the current set-up allows for many students to learn and create wonderful art, music and drama,” says Eichelberger.

Black History month allows each and every American to celebrate the rich traditions of the African Americans, learn more about historic events and remind the younger generations of the pain and suffering of generations past.

“I personally enjoy participating in the Night of the Arts as I have learned more about African American history, have been exposed to some amazing music that the students have learned and performed, and I also have gained more of an understanding of the culture,” explains Eichelberger.
