During this last month of school for high school seniors, there are many things running through their minds: College, senior prank, and of course, graduation. For seniors at Westminster however, there are three major big events in the month of April that make the last month of school so special: Senior assassin, senior prank, and the last day of school.
Senior assassin: Senior assassin at WCA has grown to become one of the most exciting parts about senior year. Beginning only 2 years ago, it has grown to become a fan favorite. The rules of the game are simple: Everyone is assigned a target in which they need to squirt with a water gun to eliminate them. Wearing goggles on the neck or head however makes you immune. You must video the ‘kill’ or it doesn’t count. Players have one week to eliminate their target whilst trying to avoid their assassin
“It’s really stressful but super fun,” says senior Anna Drochelman.
‘I’ve seen other schools’ senior assassins everywhere on social media. It makes it look easy, but it’s actually surprisingly hard. The Life 360 is so glitchy, my person doesn’t leave their house, and everyone wears goggles!’ says Drochelman.
“This is the third year we have done assassins. I helped a little bit the first year, second year I did not help, and this year I have. That said it’s important to note, it is not a Westminster sponsored event. The students own it, but they have me help with making sure that the targets remain secret” says teacher and assassins admin Brian Maloy.
“Being the keeper of the names, for assassins, can be a lot of fun, because you hear all the clever stories, and it can be pretty awful, because everybody has a lot of opinions and wants a lot of exceptions. I have had more “What Ifs” text messages then you could imagine” says Maloy.
“My tip for people to do well at assassins, be really crafty, but be really safe”
The second big event closing out senior year is the coveted senior prank. Dissection cats in lockers, cars in the grand entry, senior pranks are crazy and could be literally anything.
“I’m most excited for the senior prank,” says Drochelman.
“When the class of 2023 built a car in the grand entry, that was so clever and amazing. I’m really hoping that our class goes all out. I mean, we have a history of doing crazy things, we were that class that everyone talked about. I have a feeling we’re gonna do something big, something no one’s done before. Just talking about it is making me so excited”
This year’s seniors are definitely some to look out for when it comes to the senior prank.
The final big event when it comes to the big three is the honorary last day of high school for the seniors. After 4 days full of pranks, dress ups, and lasts, to end it off the seniors deck themselves out in their future college’s attire and have one last day of fun. Girls usually will paint their skirts and wear no leggings, guys just do whatever they want. At the end of the day, the seniors will all gather in the grand entry or the commons, count down the last few seconds of the day, then sprint to the pool and jump in.
Senior year is an incredibly special time, a time everyone will remember for the rest of their lives. Us students at Westminster are incredibly lucky to have such an amazing place to have these incredible memories and experiences.
