New Booths!

While Homecoming and carnival are long standing traditions at Westminster Christian Academy, this year’s weekend will offer many new and exciting changes. The main changes this year are new game booths, new and different attractions, and the pep rally. STUCO, Westminster Student Council continues to have an important part in the carnival itself, and the buildup to it. Ashley Woodall, director of student life, has played a primary part in helping STUCO and has provided information necessary to understand the changes of HOCO this year.

In order to keep Carnival feeling fresh and fun, Woodall and STUCO decided to give the booths more of a chance to stand out by coming up with creative ideas and giving clubs freedom over booths. For example, the drama club will have a Just Dance booth, and at the chess club booth anyone can come and play chess. Woodall said:

“We tried to provide more opportunities for booths. The other thing we are doing […] We went with a different company to make Saturday a little bit more vibrant, and exciting to come.”

New Rides and a Treasure Hunt!

Along with the new company came various new rides, including Cliff Hanger, Bear Affair, and Round Up, replacing the old ones. Although some might miss old hits like the Rock-O-Plane the new rides will be very exciting, new experiences for all students. Anyone can purchase a wristband for 25 dollars that will allow for unlimited use of rides. Accompanying the new big and mechanical rides (Only on Friday) comes inflatables (Only on Saturday), and a new treasure hunt.

The treasure hunt goes along with the pirate/adventure island theme, and is a very creative and fun idea. Woodall said:

“We’re hiding all these gold coins all over, and for every gold coin you find you bring it to the volunteer booth and you get your name entered into a drawing for a prize.”

This new treasure hunt brings a whole new fun experience rather than just riding the rides and playing the games at the booths.

More Rides!

Although there are many options other than riding the new rides. The rides themselves can not be forgotten. There will be tons of new opportunities for unfamiliar and fun experiences due to the vast new options of rides to choose from on Friday. However on Saturday the rides will be gone, but do not fear because there are all new inflatables.

Because the inflatables are completely new, they will be very exciting for those who have been to carnivals in the past and have not gotten to experience them yet. The inflatables are unique, and there will be many different options to choose from. Woodall said:

“We got a couple of pretty big obstacle courses […] We have this really funky pony hop race that seems small, but I think it’s gonna be pretty big. We have the tri bungee run where it’s like three people and they’re tied to a bungee cord and they try to race to see who can get the farthest.”

Pep Rally!

In addition to running most of the carnival STUCO has decided to add more pre-carnival fun including a new 1 on 1 football tournament, and a pep rally. This rally will take 5 minutes out of every scheduled period on Friday, and will take place at the end of the day from 2:20 to 3:00.

The addition of the pep rally may seem random, but will hopefully spark the flame towards a new tradition, and that is the end goal of it. During the rally multiple events will happen including a teacher ultimate chicken game. Along with that Woodall said:

“We’ll be highlighting some of the fall sports, talking a little bit about carnival […] STUCO is running it in cooperation with athletics.”

This pep rally should be a great way to spend a Friday, and a good way to transition to the fun that will ensue afterwards with the start of carnival.
