Ready, Set, Go!
Amidst changes in leadership for the 2014-2015 school year, Set Club works to keep productions top-notch.
At Westminster, a lot goes into making a quality production. For the actors and directors, this means hours of preparation and rehearsal. For WCA Set Club, this requires just as much time and effort, though their work is much more behind-the-scenes.
This year, Set Club has undergone a great deal of change. Perhaps the most significant change is the new leaders in charge, Mr. Sarra, Visual Arts Department Chair, and Mr. Avery, Westminster parent. While this obviously provides the students with more assistance in creating the set, it also allows the club to meet when one leader is absent.
According to Nicole Romich, junior and co-president of Set Club, new traditions have come along with the new leaders.
“Everyone takes turns bringing snacks, so that’s cool,” said Romich.
As of now, the team is working on the set for “Seussical,” which will be as whimsical and colorful as the musical itself. According to Aleeah Harden, senior and co-president of the club, working with the drama department is a benefit of being part of the team.
“I like to be there when the play practices,” said Harden.
A typical day in Set Club includes many different people doing many different jobs, such as painting, plastering, and cutting the set pieces out.
“It really depends on what the set requires. Usually, it’s a lot of painting wood,” said Romich.
According to the leaders, Set Club is a good match for those who enjoy creating art, athletes out of season, and people looking for a fun way to get service hours for National Honor Society. But ultimately, Set Club has a relaxed environment and is open to anyone.
“As long as you have hands, you can come and help,” said Harden
