The WCA peer counselor program bridges the gap between high school and middle school students.

WCA has a unique 7th through 12th grade format, which allows middle schoolers to have a relationship with their high school peer counselor.

“As a seventh grader I did not know many people, and the PC program really helped me meet new people and make friends”, said Will Wetzel, sophomore.

Each group, which typically consists of 5-10 students, will meet before school every other week.

“The peer counselor program helps students make a transition, especially new students. It allows students to plug in and create a mentoring relationship”, said Craig Walseth, middle school counselor and head of the junior PC program.

Senior PCs are matched up with seventh graders, and the junior PCs are matched up with eighth graders. For the first time ever this year, Senior PCs also have new freshman in their groups.

Not only do PC programs act as a place to meet new friends, it is also a place where students can talk about what is going on in their life.

“I became really comfortable with my PC leader in eighth grade. Our group hung out on the weekends, and I knew I could talk to her about anything”, said Sinclaire Davis, junior
