Music With a Side of Coffee
The Schick Brothers play at the local coffee bar, The Wolf.
The wolf is generally known for two things, coffee, and music. It’s the kind of coffee shop where soft clapping and light acoustic music are expected. The Schick brothers, a trio composing of Benjamin Schick, 8th grader, Daniel Schick, freshmen, and Reed Schick, junior, bring an entirely new element to the small coffee bar. Walking into The Wolf’s music room, I had a small idea of what The Schick brothers performance would be like.
“We go for an acoustic sound with influences from bands like “Mumford and Sons”, and “The Lumineers”, said Reed. They are already known for their acoustic covers of well known songs, and their vocal twists in which they separate certain parts of songs to best benefit the Schicks voices. Reed’s voice complements the lower parts of the song, while Daniel does justice to the higher ones. Let it be noted though, that the Schick brothers are not baritone singers. They are largely high voiced and sing songs that are meant for singers of a more treble range. Their performance style largely revolves around Daniel Schick and his stunning vocals. Whenever he sings, his voice echoes around the room, and crowds seem to respond.
“We just wanted to give a good performance and entertain the crowd,” said Reed.
They reached that goal with well known covers from bands such as “The Lumineers”, and “Fun”.
