Summer’s Best and Brightest
Summer Movies Wins and Fails
The summer was spent doing plenty of activities: going to amusement parks, tanning on beaches, or hanging out at camp. But there were many who just decided to stay near home and go see a good movie. And as it is with every summer, there were movies that came out on top and some that just flopped.
Worth the Money
Jurassic World: As the current highest grossing film of the year so far, “Jurassic World” keeps the audience awake with its captivating story and loud roars. And if that wasn’t enough, it had one of the catchiest movie themes ever.
Inside Out: Since Pixar missed out on a movie last year (for the first time in 10 years), they made up for it with the funny, tear-jerking “Inside Out”. As the only children’s film other than “Minions” out this summer, it ranked high this summer in terms of movie wins.
Ant-Man: due to “Avengers: Age of Ultron” being released before the summer, “Ant-Man” takes its place as the Marvel movie on the list. Filled with comedy, action, and SOOOO many easter eggs (stay till the VERY end of the credits), Ant-Man proves that Marvel just can’t fail.
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation: what’s impossible is how this franchise just won’t die just like its main character. As the fifth installment in the franchise, this movie keeps up the action its predecessors demonstrated.
Straight Outta Compton: ok, so technically this movie was already out after WCA started back up, but we’re still counting it as part of the summer films due to its popularity. An inspiring biography plus great music, “Straight Outta Compton” is straight outta this world.
Worth the Wait
Terminator Genisys: When you allow your plot twist to be revealed in the trailer, it should’ve been obvious that this movie didn’t have that much to offer.
Fantastic Four: Everyone was skeptical of it and they were right to be; little character development, missing scenes that were constantly shown in trailers, and one of the laziest team namings of all time combine to make one the worst films of the summer.
San Andreas: It may have had the Rock in it but it’s a movie about buildings falling over. Can we please end with the disaster flicks?
And that’s the list for this year’s ups and downs in Hollywood. While some of them may be a bit misjudged, we can’t deny that there are greater movies on the way. Stay tuned for more of Ryan’s Reviews.
