Lacrosse is more than a competitive sport; it is an avenue for personal growth, teamwork, and scholastic achievement. It is a sport that had closed its doors at Westminster for a couple seasons, but has recently opened them back up.
Our boys lacrosse team went 5-7 for their first season back and lost key seniors last year, but seniors Peter Kats and Daniel Coco are looking to keep building up. We asked senior Daniel Coco what his and the team’s goals were for the upcoming lacrosse season, “My goals for the season are to become the best leader I can for the younger guys and grow them as players and people. As a whole team we are looking to go above .500.” Daniel was a breakout player last year for the cats and is looking to repeat his season and bring the school more wins.
The boys are looking to improve their team as a whole and have a better approach to the field. Playing as one unit is very valuable for a lacrosse team because it will leave the opponent on their heels and not ready for what the team has prepared. They are going to need better communication and better passes. We asked senior Peter Kats what the best part of the team would be to help the lacrosse team win? “Playing physical defense and stringing together a solid offense.” Peter is expecting high things for the team and if they meet those expectations, they will see results.
The boys kick off their season March 7 at Sluh at 5:30 pm. Coco and Peter are looking to lead the team to a big season and bring back the lacrosse program and keep the doors open for future grades.
