The Westminster Christian Academy boys swim team wrapped up an impressive season at the MSHSAA Class 1 State Meet, held at the St. Peter’s Rec-Plex. The team finished tied for fifth place overall, with strong performances in both individual and relay events, and shattered multiple school records along the way.
The state meet began with the 200 Yard Medley Relay, featuring Ivan Wang (backstroke), Harrison Frost (breaststroke), Noah Hyatt (butterfly), and Joey Schloss (freestyle). The team entered as the fifth seed and improved their preliminary time to 1:37.94 in the finals, securing a fourth-place finish and 30 team points. Their time broke the school record for the event.
Freshman Ivan Wang continued the momentum in the 200 Yard Individual Medley. Seeded seventh, he dropped an impressive 4.3 seconds from his entry time to finish fourth in the finals with a time of 1:52.91, breaking the school record.
Senior Joey Schloss excelled in the 50 Yard Freestyle, the fastest event of the meet. Seeded tenth, he swam into the championship finals and finished seventh with a time of 22.26, earning a state medal and 12 team points.
The 100 Yard Freestyle saw sophomore Harrison Frost and senior Joey Schloss competing. Frost, seeded seventh, broke his own school record again with a time of 48.71, finishing eighth overall and earning 11 team points. Schloss climbed from 16th in prelims to finish 13th in the consolation finals with a time of 50.31, adding four points to the team total.
In the 100 Yard Backstroke, Ivan Wang added to his record-breaking day. He improved on his preliminary time to finish second in the finals with a time of 51.56, setting another school record and earning 17 team points.
Frost also set a record-breaking mark in the opening split of the 200 Yard Free Relay, swimming a blistering 22.05. The relay team of Frost, Schloss, Hyatt, and Wang delivered an extraordinary performance in the finals, finishing third with a time of 1:29.22. Their effort shattered the previous school record and earned 32 team points.
The Wildcats competed in the final event, the 400 Yard Free Relay, with Daniel Penner, Joshua Warren, Ben Weinstein, and Noah Hyatt finishing in 28th place during prelims.
Overall, Westminster’s combination of state medals, record-breaking swims, and a top-five team finish capped off a remarkable season. Congratulations to the Wildcats and their coaches on an outstanding year!
