The Cats had their first tournament on Monday, April 8th, at Winghaven Country Club. Charlie Kruse led the cats into this tournament with 20 of the best teams from around St. Louis.
Under Burkey’s wise leadership, he was able to help the team navigate the course. Despite the competition, the Wildcats showed their skill.
Rhoads Hall, carded an impressive 76. Following closely behind, Charlie Kruse and Ben Weinstein displayed their talent, shooting 85 and 87 respectively. Even as Luke Downey battled extreme allergic reactions, he persevered, posting a commendable 86. That boy did not let the rashes get to him.
Despite Lucas Simmons’ solid effort, only the top four scores were counted. Lucas has had a great season so far, and is arguably the most improved player on the team.
With twenty teams on the course, the Cats claimed twelfth place, a marked improvement from their previous year’s performance. Last year the Cats struggled, finishing 14th overall.
As the cats approached the 18th green, they witnessed something like never before. Rhoads Hall, Junior, reflects on the eclipse, “Moments in the darkness helped me to see the shining light and positivity that pushed me through my round”.
The success so far for the Cats is not limited to the Bulldog Battle, with a record of 4-2. The cats are locked in for the conference tournament coming up on April 30th. The tournament will be hosted at the Falls Golf Club. The road ahead is going to be a battle for the cats.
The Class 4 District Championship follows the conference tournament. The district tournament determines who will participate in the State Tournament and pursue a state title. The Cats will continue the grind and keep pushing for low numbers.
