In a thrilling match on Friday against Excelsior Springs, Krew Collison, Sophomore, set the tone with an early goal, paving the way for a commanding 3-0 victory. Levi Weik, Senior, with the other two goals, solidified the lead, and the boys entered the second half with a comfortable 3-0 advantage. Quinn Lawrence, Senior Goalie, tapped in and was an absolute brick wall allowing the Wildcats to maintain their 3-0 lead.
Later that night, in a battle against Orchard Farm, Logan Rodgersville secured victory in penalty kicks after double overtime. Exhausted from their extended match, the Wildcats seized the opportunity, carrying their momentum into the state championship the following day against Logan Rodgersville.
The state championship proved to be a dogfight, with Adriel Monga, Sophomore, and Krew Collison making strategic runs, while Landon Cassidy, Junior, anchored the defense. In the second half, Levi Weik slipped through the defense, receiving a precise pass from Krew, resulting in a sensational Wildcats goal.
Tension was high, but the boys fought tenaciously. Junior Austin McCarthy’s commitment was evident, putting his body on the line and earning a shiny yellow card in the process. The Wildcats secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory, clinching the Class 2 state championship. This was a historic moment for coach Dan Legters, also known as “Senor”. It was his first state championship and a groundbreaking achievement for Westminster – their first-ever state championship in soccer. This team will always be remembered for their remarkable achievements and the talent and chemistry they possessed as a whole.
