Most athletic programs pride themselves in their ability to transform a team into a family. For the girls volleyball team at Westminster this is more than just a cliche saying, but a statement of fact. Part of the family dynamic stems directly from members of the same family playing together as Lexi and London Frazier have the opportunity to dominate the court side by side this year. This level of team unity had led the Cats to a 9-2 record despite moving up to class five.
“I don’t feel like me and London compete a lot but she definitely makes me want to be a better player,” said Lexi Frazier, senior volleyball captain. Not only does the experienced varsity setter, Lexi Frazier guide the young blood, but her job as a role model motivates her improvement. Due to the sister role that Lexi holds, she is driven to be more focused and dedicated in order to set a better example for her sister.
”She definitely bosses me around more than she does everyone else.” Said London, commenting on her view playing with Lexi. “She’s always targeting when she serves and I swear she blocks so much higher when I’m hitting”, said London Frazier. Although Lexi and London have slightly different views on their sisterly dynamic, it is obvious that they both encourage and motivate one another as players.
The sisters’ friendly competition and sometimes anger, however, does not stop them from proving themselves as a dynamic duo. They asserted their presence as early as a pre-season jamboree when Lexi set London three times which resulted in smashing kills. An obvious foreshadow to the amazing things they will do this season.
“After tryouts, we told our mom London made the freshman team. Her face when we said that she actually made varsity with me, was seriously priceless” said Lexi.
Watching the sisters thrive together is awesome, but from the bleachers, Mrs. Friazier’s proud smile while watching her two girls play is enough to light up the entire gym.
This sister on sister matchup is the type of recipe that the Westminster volleyball team needs to close on another State winning season. Come see the frazier sisters in action when the cats’ take on Principia at home September 26th.
