Big Night Sweep
The girls basketball team takes down Principia with ease on the last night of Spirit Week.
On Tuesday, February 8th, the Cats got the chance to redeem themselves in conference play after a tough loss to John Burroughs two weeks prior. Because Westminster athletic programs have a history of beating Principia, the team went into the game with confidence; however, many were mentally and physically exhausted from Spirit Week.
The game plan was simple: stay disciplined, take care of business, and have fun, and that’s exactly what they did. After a strong first quarter, the Cats were able to draw from their bench and give every player a fair share of court time.
Reilly Brophy, senior point guard, was on fire from beyond the arc, draining six threes to total twenty total points. Julia Coleman, junior, and Carlie Vick, senior, also contributed their typical amount of points on the board, with fourteen and twelve.
Although it may have been easy to lose focus, the Cats were able to maintain energy and intensity throughout the game due to a packed Blue Crew section with constant cheering.
“It was fun to play in a bigger environment. It made it easier to stay in the game,” said Brophy.
The girls basketball team now holds a record of 15-4, and their next game will be on Friday, February 11th at 5:30pm against Lutheran South.
