Jacob Schloss participated in the Carlyle Lake Triathlon.

Jacob Schloss, senior, finished sixth overall out of 93 people and first in his age group in the Carlyle Lake Triathlon this past Sunday on September 19th, 2021, making him an obvious selection for Sporting’s second “Athlete of the Week.” This demanding event included a 1500 meter swim, 24.5 mile bike, and 6.2 mile run, an Olympic distance triathlon.

Schloss only began training and participating in triathlons recently, as he picked up the hobby during the COVID year, but he was not afraid of a challenge.

“Since I was already good at swimming, all I had to improve was running for distance and road biking,” said Schloss.

Jacob Schloss swims the 500m freestyle, 100m backstroke, and various relays for the Westminster swim team. He has been a vital part to the team’s success since his freshman year and has qualified for state the past two years in a row. His goal this season is to swim sub minutes in the 500.

“I’m excited to see how the team continues to progress. It’s exciting to watch others get best times and I’m excited for what the remainder of the season has to offer,” said Schloss.
