2020 Field Hockey preview
The field hockey team’s theme this year is “All in.” They plan on working their hardest to benefit themselves and other teammates. The eight year old program is looking to make its most memorable year of all time.
“We have been preparing for the unexpected since our first 2020 team zoom meeting last April,” said Coach Schmer, head coach.
Covid has only been a minor setback for the field hockey team. They are still working hard in practices and plan on having a full season. The team has carefully followed the guidelines set in place by Athletic Director Mr. Snyder, Athletic Trainer Katherine Love, and the rest of the Westminster athletic staff. These guidelines consist of social distancing and wearing masks before and after practices as well as during water breaks.
“The team has grown close through this weird experience” said Abby Sickels, senior captain.
The team is looking to bounce back better than ever before after losing a total of thirteen seniors this past season. They have a strong returning presence of juniors, seniors, and some key freshman and sophomores that are stepping up this season. The four captains this year include Ellie Callier, senior, Abby Sickels, senior, KK Pruett, junior, and Kendall Sadler, junior. These captains have been working relentlessly to bring the team closer together and ultimately have the best season possible.
“The captains have had an amazing impact on the team this year. They constantly encourage us and make sure we never give up” said Mia Scheulen, freshman.
