Sophomore Nolan Jones is a three-sport athlete returning from a strong freshman season in football, wrestling, and baseball. This year, Jones will step into bigger roles and work to build on an impressive and impactful freshman year.

Jones has already made a big contribution on the football field this year. He has scored two touchdowns after returning from an injury that sidelined him for the first four contests.

“Missing the first couple games this year was difficult, and staying in shape was difficult, but I feel like I’m caught up now. The team has been playing hard, and I’m glad to be able to get back out on the field with them,” said Jones.

Jones will participate in wrestling in the winter and baseball in the spring. Playing three sports is already a difficult task, but the addition of schoolwork and club teams makes it seemingly impossible.

“I try to work out on my own a lot over the summer, and not as often, but still frequently, during season. I think playing three sports benefits my athleticism greatly and benefits my character through hard work and discipline in all my sports,” he said.

Jones tries not to look ahead in the year, but rather stay focused on his current sport. “I manage playing three sports by focusing on the sport that is in season. I focus on being committed to that sport and not another one. I also make sure I keep my grades up,” explained Jones.

Jones plans to continue his athletic career at the next level. “My favorite sport is baseball. And if I can, I want to wrestle and play baseball in college.”

He credits much of his success to his dad, who has helped him become the player he is today in all sports, especially on the baseball diamond.

“My dad has helped me with baseball by always throwing me batting practice and adjusting my swing in anyway needed. He also always hits me ground ball after ground ball every chance we get. He’s spent a lot of his life around the game, and he pours all his knowledge into me.”

Jones has continued to impress the Westminster sports community with his athletic versatility and success, and he looks forward to making a significant impact in the years to come, both at WCA and beyond.
