The boy’s Westminster basketball team walked into the Ladue gym with a 4-1 record ready to face the talented Ladue varsity team on Dec. 13. But only frustration and disappointment arose throughout the game for the Wildcats, as Ladue rolled to a 67-54 victory.
Ladue’s talented squad was too much for the Westminster team, as they broke away after the first quarter.
“Ladue has a great team this year. Their point guard is a very good player and we just couldn’t keep up with them as the game went on,” said Andrew Cannon, junior.
The team had some strong performances with Jack Dohr, senior, leading the way with 17 points, John Eric Steiner, senior, with 16, and Shane Benes, junior, with 10.
“There were some strong performances from our team and we hope to build off those performances,” said Cannon.
While the Ladue game was a disappointment, the Westminster basketball team will get another chance to redeem themselves at the MICDS tournament coming up over Christmas break.
“We hope that we can respond well after this loss and win the MICDS tournament coming up. That would help with confidence and get us off to a great start this season,” said Cannon
This year’s varsity basketball team has great potential and expectations. They hope to learn from their tough experience against Ladue and make a run in the MICDS tournament.
