Last year’s boys varsity basketball team finished the season with a 22-5 record overall. Unfortunately, their season came to an end in the district finals as they fell in the last second to a talented U. City team. While their hard-fought loss seemed unbearable at the time, a new season has come around bringing new hopes for redemption and another great season.
With eight returning players from last year’s talented squad, there are high hopes for this new season.
“This year we would like to win a state championship. It is also important for our team to be building character as strong Christian men,” said Andrew Cannon, junior.
With all the returning players from last year’s team, there will be no shortage of leadership for the younger players this season.
“This year John Eric, Jack Dohr, and Grant Koby (Seniors) will lead the team and be key components to our success this season,” said Cannon.
Although very few players were lost from last year’s team, the strengths and weaknesses of this squad has changed.
“This year we lack height with the absence of Connor Flemming but we gain a lot more guards with three point capability,” said Cannon.
There are great expectations for this year’s basketball team. Last year they came up short by seconds from traveling to Mizzou to compete for a state final. This year they hope to turn the tables and come out on top with Westminster’s first boy’s basketball state championship.
